Top 3 Arsenal Stars in The Race to Be Named Captain

Following the sale of Laurent Koscielny to French side Bordeaux, English Premier League side Arsenal was left without a club captain. The role has so far been shared this season with Granix Xhaka and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang all downing the Captain’s armband.

Head Coach Unai Emery insisted that he will name his captain after Tuesday’s Carabao Cup match with Nottingham Forest. Below we look at the suitable candidates for the role.

Hector Bellerin

The Spanish right-back is finalizing his rehab from a knee injury suffered last season against Chelsea. Once fit and ready to play, Bellerin is the starting right back at Arsenal.

Bellerin has been at Arsenal since he was 16 years old and knows all the club’s ethos and traditions. Prior to his injury last season Bellerin had showcased brilliant leadership skills and was one of the best performers under Unai Emery.

David Luiz

The former Chelsea defender has won it all in the Premier League including the league titles with the Blues and the Champions League in 2012. Luiz is a great character and is Arsenal’s best defender at the moment.

At 32 years of age, he is of the right age to lead a young Arsenal squad that is in desperate need of a leader.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal’s best player so far this season. The Gabonese striker has only failed to score in one match he has played in this season. He wore the captain’s armband in the comeback win over Aston Villa after Granit Xhaka was subbed off.

Aubameyang is popular in the dressing room as well as with the fans too. He is also a sure starter for his goals and work ethic. Surely he is worth the armband officially!
