Something seems to be not right at Kenya Premier League new boys, Wazito FC.
Last Season’s National Super League winners recruited heavily in the last transfer window and in some quarters earned the nickname as Kenya’s Manchester City.
The signings were not as good in numbers as well in quality with the likes of Ali Hassan Abondo, Derrick Otanga and Karim Nizigiyimana making their way to the Wazito ranks. Much was expected heading into the new season. Wazito is a Swahili name to mean those who are heavy or in this case, the greatest one.
However, three games into the new season, the team is yet to register a win and has only scored a single goal which came from the penalty spot in the first match against Nzoia Sugar.
It means that in 270 minutes of football, the team is yet to find the net from open play.
A disappointing goalless draw with Western Stima was followed by a drab 1-0 loss to AFC Leopards last weekend.
Interestingly, the team is yet to field a constant starting line up in all three matches. The high number of players means that the coach has to chop and change from game to game which disrupts the chemistry of the team.
In a way, one could translate Wazito’s strong showing in the transfer market as one of the main factors that is holding the team back. Too many egos have to be pleased which only leads to disjointed performances and worrying results.
Mind you, the team might pick some form and start producing starting with this Saturday’s trip to face Kisumu All-Stars but on the testament of the past 3 matches, you wouldn’t put your money on that occurrence.
