Mathare United head coach Salim Ali is a happy man after his side grabbed maximum points from their Kenyan Premier League match played on Saturday, September 21.

David Owino and Clifford Alwanga scored in the second half to cancel Daniel Waweru’s opener, thereby handing the Slum Boys a deserved victory.

Speaking after the match, Salim explained that his boys gave him the best match so far this season. “The result has come out of sheer hard work. The boys dug deep to get the win and I can only thank them for the best performance so far this campaign,” he said.

“There is gradual improvement and today it showed that the work we do in training is registering in the minds of the players. We now need to continue with this momentum as the season is just starting and go step by step towards attaining our goals,” he added.

He also talked about the club’s squad stability. “Maintaining with the same starting squad does not mean that I have found the squad that best gels together. The team is beyond the 11 players that start the game but you start or make the bench because of what you have done in the last game as well as in training. So I urge all my players to strive to be better and not let complacency creep in,” he concluded.

Mathare United now sit on the fourth spot of the Kenyan Premier League table with five points.
