Ruto Silences Critics Over Uhuru’s Failure to Support ODM

Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday, silenced Jubilee Party critics in regards to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement of Macdonald Mariga as the party’s candidate for Kibra seat.

Ruto, through a tweet, responded to a headline on Friday’s edition of the Daily Nation newspaper that had questioned the fate of the handshake.

“Those ranting about our party leader endorsing our party candidate should give us a break,” stated Ruto.

The DP remarked that the ruling party haters should refrain from blowing things out of proportion.

He further added that the decision by Uhuru to support Mariga did not affect the pact made between him and ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

According to Ruto, Jubilee had the right to field a candidate like any other party as part of healthy political competition.

On Wednesday, the head of state held a meeting at State House with the former Inter midfielder ahead of the Kibra campaigns.

Uhuru revealed that he fully supported Mariga’s bid and wished him success as he battles it out with other candidates for the position left vacant by the late Ken Okoth.

The decision by the president came amid speculation that he had no intentions of backing the ex-Harambee Stars captain.

It was reported that Uhuru was focused on more important issues and had no initial plan to be involved in the Kibra campaigns for the by-election set for November 7.
