Church Elder Arrested for Defiling Schoolgirl

A church elder has been arrested for allegedly defiling a form two student at Wahambla Village in East Kanyada Location, Homa Bay.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday after being accused of repeatedly defiling the minor, who is a student at a local secondary school.

It is alleged that the suspect went hiding on Tuesday when he learnt that police officers and the area chief were hunting for him.

Officer Commanding Homa Bay Police Station (OCS) Zamdam Mkodo, who confirmed the arrest, said that the suspect had been sexually assaulting the minor by luring her with money.

Speaking to KNA, Mkodo stated that upon interrogation, the minor confessed to the police that the suspect was committing the heinous act and had been warning her against revealing the matter to her parents.

The officer added that the minor further revealed that every time the suspects met her, he gave her Ksh 500 to allow him to commit the act.

The minor was taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medical examination and later handed over to her parents after recording a statement.

The suspect is currently being held at Homa Bay Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.

In Eldoret, a Catholic catechist, who was sacked over allegations of defilement, has sued the church for compensation.

Albert Nyamu, a former catechist at Majengo Parish in Eldoret, said he was framed of the crime leading to his dismissal.
