In a bid to discourage gambling among youth in Kabarnet town, Baringo county, police have seized and destroyed several gambling machines in the town.

The over 100 machines, which were seized on Wednesday last week within the town, were on Tuesday set ablaze

While leading the destruction exercise, Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula thanked the security agencies for confiscating the machines, which he said have contributed a lot to breaking up of families.

“Those who participate in these gambling activities forget about their families since they spend all their time and resources in gambling,” remarked the commissioner.

Wafula insisted that he had already given out orders for the same operation to be conducted in Marigat and Mogotio and other major towns in the county.

He further revealed that his officers destroyed 14 of the machines in Eldama Ravine and they will continue with the crackdown until the business comes to a dead end.

However, he cautioned business people to engage in other income-generating activities which have a positive reputation.

He also gave out a stern warning to those who are still engaging themselves in the activity, cautioning that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.

Interior CS Fred Matiangi had, on Monday, issued an order for the destruction of all the gambling machines in the country.

It included 35,000 litres of kangara, 3,000 litres of chang’aa and 4,000 litres of busaa which were loaded in containers.
