Mariga has declared his candidature for the Kibra Constituency Member of Parliament seat following the death of former MP Ken Okoth. In this regard, Sholei penned a long social media post urging the football fraternity to back the former Inter Millan midfielder on the 7th November polls.
“Politics aside, Mariga might not be one of the best leaders but he remains that one that will listen to ideas and will implement, I know the boy better than the trumpet blowers, as a former Harambee Stars Captain, he already qualifies as a leader. Let us endorse Mariga as former players, supporters too…Haters are also allowed to do their thing …. who stands with McDonald Mariga?…Chama Kando !” part of the post read.
However, Kenyans on his timeline who include former footballers, journalists and football stakeholders openly differed with him, some calling him a disgrace to the beautiful game of football.
