Bent Calls For Wanyama Caution After Failed Move to Belgium

ENFIELD, ENGLAND – JANUARY 23:

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent says the club can play Victor Wanyama only if he is in the right frame of mind.

The Kenyan international was largely expected to leave the North London club in August for Belgian side, Club Brugge. He however failed to agree on personal terms with the side and remained at Spurs where he is out of favor.

Bent now believes Spurs can still use Wanyama but only if he is in the right state of mind. He cautioned against fielding the defensive midfielder if he remains unsettled.

“It just depends where his head’s at. Someone like that you want around the first-team because he’s a good player. You’re going to need him at times when the squad’s a bit light,” he said.

“You might go into a game where you need that defensive pairing to win you the game, shore you up a little bit, he’s the perfect guy. At the same time, if his head’s not right because he thought he was leaving and he’s desperate to get out of there, you can’t risk someone like that because he doesn’t want to be there.

“Where’s his head at? If it’s in the right place, I’m all for using him, because he’s good enough to do a job when they need him. You talk about defensive nous, where to be on the pitch and how to defend effectively, there’s no one better, “he concluded.

Spurs play Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
