ODM MPs from Nairobi County met on Friday to lay a strategy for the campaign of its flag bearer for the Kibra seat, Imran Okoth.

The party’s Director of Elections, Junet Mohammed, explained that the MPs held consultations with the party’s candidate to strategise on ways to sell its candidate to the Kibra residents.

The ODM party is leaving nothing to chance to fill the seat that was left vacant by the late Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer on July 26.

On Monday, while issuing a certificate to Imran, Junet noted that the party was confident it would win the seat.

He told Imran’s competitors to expect a tough battle while emphasising that it was only ODM that conducted credible nominations.

Kile chama ambacho kimefanya nominations nchini katika uchaguzi huu wa Kibra ni ODM; wale wengine hawakufanya nominations…walifanya selection! Nawaambia Jubilee, ANC, Tangatanga na hao wengine wajitayarishe kwani Kibra ni ODM (this is the only party that conducted credible elections is, the others did a selection. I’m notifying jubilee, ANC and other parties to be ready for a battle with ODM),” Junet stated.

Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will issue its ruling on Monday on whether Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga is eligible to vie for the Kibra seat.

The IEBC Disputes Tribunal on Friday heard an appeal lodged by the Jubilee aspirant.

Mariga is contesting a decision by Kibra Returning Officer Beatrice Muli to block him from vying for the list on the basis that he is not a registered voter and, therefore, not eligible to contest.

In an affidavit he filed before the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee, on Thursday, Mariga stated, “I registered as a voter on August 26, 2019, at Kariokor Social Hall Polling Station in Starehe Constituency and I was issued with an acknowledgment slip.”

He termed the decision by the Commission to block him from vying as “improper, null and void” and wants it revoked.
