Mariga’s Driving Licence is Expired – Evidence Shows

Jubilee Kibra Aspirant Macdonald Mariga

Former football star, Macdonald Mariga’s troubles, may not be over if details about his driving licence are anything to go by.

By Friday, a check through the NTSA portal showed that the former Inter midfielder’s driving licence had been termed out of date.

The information indicates that legally, Mariga is not allowed to be behind the wheel on any Kenyan road.

A check done by this writer on the app, using the ID details on his IEBC registration slip, cleared indicated that his licence was expired.

On September 10, the ex-Parma player suffered a major setback after IEBC nullified his candidature for the Kibra by-election due to him not being a registered voter.

According to IEBC Kibra Returning Officer Beatrice Muli, the details of the Jubilee flagbearer were missing in the voters’ register.

“I have verified and checked and I could not find his details. At this point, my hands are tied. We have invalidated Mariga’s nomination,” remarked Muli.

The once Harambee Stars captain had, however, filed a petition at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s Disputes Resolution Committee in a bid to overturn the decision made.

Mariga reassured his supporters and maintained that he was duly registered before deciding to run for the seat left vacant by the late Ken Okoth.

The fate over his validity to vie in the elections will be determined by the elections board on September 17.

If cleared, Mariga will battle it out with ODM party candidate, Imran Okoth, and ANC party candidate, Eliud Owalo, for the chance to represent the area on November 7.
