Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia have their fingers crossed ahead of their trip to Algeria where they have been scheduled to play USM Alger in their first-round Champions league tie.

K’Ogalo squad is expected to jet off on Friday afternoon but their Chairman Ambrose Rachier says the club is still waiting for the Kenyan government to bail them out. He says the government had promised to buy their tickets and that they are patiently waiting.

According to him, if the tickets are not bought and flight booked in time, Gor Mahia could, unfortunately, fail to travel for the continental match.

“We shall be leaving on Friday but I can’t tell the time, because we are not sure when the tickets we have been promised will be ready. We intend to reach Algeria on Saturday in readiness for the Sunday match. As at now we still don’t have money, things have been hard and we are relying on the government’s promise. We are sure they won’t let us down,” he said, as quoted by Nation.

This comes after the club raised a paltry Sh1.3 million at their recent Harambee which was boycotted by key invited guests including the club’s patron and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, who was to be the event’s guest of honour did not show up too.

Gor Mahia needed Sh5 million in order to honour the match which is slated for Sunday.
