Moyale Heist: Thieves steal unknown amount of money belonging to Equity Bank

Three unidentified men made away with unknown amount of money belonging to Equity Bank that was in transit in Moyale County, Police say.

A report from Moyale Police Station to newsrooms said thieves stole unknown amount of money that had been delivered by air from Nairobi to Moyale at Moyale Airstrip.

According to the report, the aircraft had left Nairobi at 10:00 am and landed at about 13: 00pm.

All the occupants namely Alex Irate (Pilot) John Michael Onunga (Co pilot) and Langat Nelson Kipngetich (Wells Fargo cash officer )” alighted  from the plane.

The report, however, indicates that when the pilot went to check the fuel level, three strangers emerged from behind the waiting bay and took away with money.

“One of them produced a pistol and ordered them to lie down. the other suspects forced the door of the aircraft open and manage to remove  two sacks among the three containing unknown amount of money and escape with it using a motor cycle of unknown registration number which was parked next to the waiting bay”

The report adds that the thieves left one blue sac containing an unknown amount of money inside the aircraft.

Consequently, the police launched investigations and established that the suspects escaped through by cutting the chain link perimeter fence.

“It was established that, there was no prior security arrangements made by the Equity Bank Manager in regard to the transit of the consignments”

The report said that the three occupants are being held at Moyale Police Station for  further interrogation.

No one was injured during the incident and no arrests have been made yet.
