NTSA Takes 5 Actions Against Driver Caught Texting While Speeding

NTSA on Thursday took action against a driver who was caught texting while behind the wheel.

A statement from the transport authority indicated that the driver belonging to 2NK and the Sacco officials were summoned before a multi-agency team consisting of officers from NTSA and the National Police Service.

The driver, whose identity was not revealed, had his licence suspended by the transport body.

NTSA further revoked his PSV licence and withdrew his badge as a strict measure to curb the behaviour.

According to the road enforcers, the life-threatening driver would be required to be retested in order to access his competencies.

2NK, on its part, was directed to remove the driver from its portal and organise a road safety sensitization for the Sacco management within a period of one week.

The move came after a viral photo of the driver using his mobile phone while driving surfaced on social media.

In 2018, a driver belonging to the Kawere bus Sacco also had his licence withdrawn after he was caught on video driving recklessly.

The driver, identified as Hilary Shikouko, had his licence cancelled after it was found that he had exceeded the set speed limit of 80Kph.

NTSA pointed out that the bus belonged to Rengom company whose vehicles would be taken through inspection to ensure all regulations set are met.
