Exclusive: Ambitious Homeboyz Boss Aims to Dethrone Gor Mahia

Kakamega Homeboyz FC chairman Cleophas Shimanyula says his team’s target this season is to bag their first-ever Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title.

The Kakamega County-based team began its 2019/20 season with a hard-fought win over AFC Leopards on Sunday , September 1 at Bukhungu Stadium as the side extended its recently found dominance over the limping Leopards. New boy Steven Etyang scored the lone goal of the match in the closing stages of the game.

Speaking to Opera News, a bullish Shimanyula said the team’s target is to win their first-ever title. He said the Nicholas Muyoti coached side has what it takes to end Gor Mahia’s dominance in the local scene.

“Homeboyz is now a big team and this season we are going for the title. We have a very good squad right now because we brought on board some quality players who will improve the already good squad that we had.

“We started with a win on Sunday and the goal is to continue winning games, I believe we have a squad capable of challenging Gor Mahia and other teams for the title. I also have full confidence in my bench led by coach Muyoti and we will give him all the necessary support,” he told Opera News.

Homeboyz roped it 11 players in the just concluded window. They are; Charles Okiya (Chemelil Sugar Fc), Stephen Etyang (Nzoia Sugar Fc), Dennis Sosi (Nzoia Sugar Fc), Shami Kibwana (Kcb Fc), Andrew Waiswa (Sony Sugar Fc), Christopher Masinza (Vihiga United Fc), Vincent Mahiga (Chemelil Sugar Fc), Stephen Wakanya (Vihiga United Fc), Noah Wafula (Tusker Fc), Ronald Omino (Sony Sugar Fc), Kevin Omondi (Zoo Fc).
