Multichoice, the company which owns DStv and GOtv, some of the leading entertainment providers in the country, has come out to respond to the ongoing Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

While bowing to the already mounting pressure from a section of Kenyans, the company, through a statement, regretted the incidents noting that Multichoice, which has its origins in the volatile nation, is committed to uniting Africans and not vice versa.

“The ongoing violence in South Africa against foreign nationals is against the spirit of Africa. Although our story began in South Africa, we are an African company and we represent the continent in all its diversity through our presence across the region,” read part of the statement.

The company highlighted that a solution to end the already escalating menace can be realised through dialogue, peace, and unity.

“This is a sombre period fro every African continent and beyond and we urge all our customers, followers and stakeholders to shun violence,” concluded the statement.

The attacks have so far caused some jitters among many African states with Nigeria nationals, whose citizens have largely been affected, burning down some of South Africa’s-owned companies in Lagos in retaliation.

The same has been echoed in Kenya after two shops belonging to Kenyan traders were looted and burned down in Johannesburg.

A section of the leaders led by Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, and his Embakasi East counterpart, Babu Owino, had condemned the attacks with Kuria indirectly urging Kenyans to boycott South Africa’s products including DStv and GOtv.

“Having a DSTV/GOTV Connection amounts to supporting Xenophobia in South Africa” Posted Kuria on Facebook.
