The Kenyan National football team Harambee Stars is set to clash with its East African neigbour Uganda Cranes in a an international friendly match at the Kasarani Sports Centre Stadium on Sunday, September 8 at  4PM.

Head Coach Francis Kimanzi has called up his 25-man squad and the players are already in camp preparing for the high profile friendly. Below, we look at 3 players to watch from the squad.

Boniface Muchiri

The Tusker FC attacking midfielder started off the Kenya Premier League season with a brace against defending Champions Gor Mahia in Kisumu. Though still uncapped, Muchiri’s development in the past few years warrants him a chance to feature for the national team.

The midfield is a highly competitive department in the squad but should he get the chance, the former Sony Sugar #10 could wreak havoc in the Ugandan backline either with his goals or excellent final ball.

Francis Kahata

In truth, Francis Kahata’s last match for the Harambee Stars was disastrous. The midfielder was hooked off in the first half during the AFCON second Group C match against Tanzania. His form has not been great since he made the move to Tanzania giants Simba FC.

On his day, however, Kahata is capable of deciding the outcome of a match and will need to remind the new coach that he still has that ability. His performance will be worth keeping a close eye on.

Jesse Were

After years of exclusions from the team, Francis Kimanzi finally called up the Zesco United hitman, Jesse Were. His form at club level is impeccable but oddly enough, Were has never scored a goal for the National team.

A goal against Uganda would be a huge confidence booster for the player and would also strengthen Harambee Stars’ striking options after having to heavily rely on Micheal Olunga in the past few years. Definitely one to look out for!
