End of the Tassle? Sportpesa Makes Major Announcement

Sportpesa finally cleared by Kenya Revenue Authority on its journey to have its licence renewed

Giant sports betting firm SportPesa has finally been cleared by Kenya Revenue Authority and it is set to commence operations soon.

In a statement, the betting firm announced that the behind the scenes negotiations had yielded fruits and hoped that its activities will soon be rolling out.

“…we are pleased that the Kenya Revenue Authority has cleared us to have our license renewed. We are confident that this process will be completed soon allowing the company to resume its operations,” read in part the statement.

The company further announced that they are going to communicate when the operation will begin and said that they are committed to ensuring all tax regulations are adhered to.

The development comes after a two-months protracted tassel with the authority over revenue payments.

In July, the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) blocked its mobile payment systems over what it claimed as: “failure to comply with the tax and legal requirement.”

As a result the body refused to renew the betting firm’s license hence paralyzing its operations.

The betting firm however through a statement dismissed the allegations saying: “SportPesa has been fully compliant with all tax and legal requirements in Kenya.”

Other companies that suffered similar fate included Lucky 2 U, Asian Betting and Gaming Ltd, Kick Off Sports Bar Ltd, Mozzarbet Kenya Ltd, Atari Gaming Ltd, Millionaire Sports Bet Ltd, Premier Betting Ltd, Advanced Innovation Ltd, Sekunde Technologies among others
