Wazito Raids South African side for midfielder

Wazito have confirmed the signing of former Gor Mahia midfielder Victor Ali Hassan Abondo alias ‘teargas’ from Premier League Soccer side Bloemfontein Celtic F.C.

Abondo, who played for Sony Sugar, Bandari, and Tusker before joining K’Ogalo in the 2015/16 season, went to advance his career in South Africa when he joined Ajax Cape Town in 2016.

He made only 3 appearances at Cape Town Stadium before switching to Bloemfontein Celtic F.C in the season 2017/18 until he received a call back to the Kenyan Premier League side Wazito FC.

The Ricardo Badoer-owned side confirmed the capture of the 29-year-old on Friday for an undisclosed fee and is set to blend in the club’s midfield department with his League experience.

After unveiling, the Abondo said: “I am happy to be back home. My time in South Africa was a little challenging because it’s far away from home, it’s totally a new environment. I am delighted to be joining Wazito because it’s am an ambitious team with high targets and I want to be part of this exciting project. I will always give my best to help the team do well,” Abondo said.

The club’s sporting director Solomon Alubala also expressed his joy to have the midfielder in the club and believes he has come with a massive boost for the club.

“Abondo is a quality player. He has really impressed in training and I believe he is a good addition to the team. He a senior player and will definitely be one of the leaders in the team. We have so many young players in the squad and having a player of Abondo’s caliber will help lift the rest of the team. We are happy to have him on board because we are building a strong team,” Alubala stated.

The former Gor star now joins new signings Bixente Otieno, Gad Matthews, Kevin Omondi, Karim Nizigiyimana, Abouba Sibomana, Bernard Ochieng, Johnstone Omurwa, Amos Asembeka, Mansoor Safi, Michael Oduor, Joshua Otieno Nyatini, Derick Otanga, Elvis Rupia, and Piston Mutamba.
