The Kenyan people have to undoubtedly be one of the most creative, ingenious, funny and greatest people in the world. We are known to be a unique lot, who have fun in the most bizarre ways, from our coded messages to inventions you name it. Moments after the Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Ezekiel Mutua proposed a restriction of two local songs in public, Kenyans have irked both criticism and praise from social media users.

Come to think about it, with this millennial generation, you cannot control morals through the law. We are in the digital era, where the internet provides access to unlimited content. You can only teach your children morals and let them decide.

Ezekiel needs to understand that the question of morality is not about the law but about people themselves and both songs have been on air for so long, shared widely and they are still available online. Secondly, the songs are played more in homes and other social joints than in clubs where Ezekiel’s hand cannot reach. So how effective will his ban be?

In Mutua’s defense ‘Wamlambez and Tetema’ were dirty and unsuitable for mixed company, claiming because of sexual innuendos contained in the lyrics. On the other hand, Kenyans swore not to bow down to pressure and so as to confirm the depth of the wave, a Safaricom customer care attendant was recorded as she responded to the Wamlambez wave.

On another incident, Agriculture CS posted a video of himself among other people dancing to popular hit song β€˜Tetema’ after to a public performance ban of the song. The CS’s post came barely an hour after Mutua banned any public performance showcaseΒ of the song and the now famous β€˜Wamlambez’ anywhere outside clubs.

Here were some reactions.

Dan Denis Mutugi Waziri Mutua never informed you before banning the song it was your last public dance to the song unfortunately hahaha
