Muhomo Fc from Chevaywa Ward, Matete Sub County, Kakamega County are the new champions of the Wanyonyi Junior Tournament dubbed Talanta Mtaani sponsored by Oro Kenya Digital Marketing.
Muhomo FC edged out Marukusi Fc 3-0 in the final played at Vuyika Primary School on Sunday the 25th September 2019.
After spectacular and defense errors, Muhomo registered their first goal through Collins Mutamali before Sammy Okumu grabbed the second goal ten minutes before half time.
Despite putting up a spirited fight offensively, Marukusi FC under the stewardship of Maxwell Nyoka could not curb their defensive errors and allowed Muhomo to score their third and the final goal of the match through Kelvin Wambasi who ensured that his team clinched the Trophy for the very first time.
In the play-off, M360 under the stewardship of Martin Luvisia thrashed Mukhalanya 3-1 to clinch the third spot.
Speaking after the game, Voice of America sports journalist who organized the tournament urged local leaders to promote sports at the grassroots during the holidays to ensure youths are busy and in effect will stay away from petty crimes and drugs.
On his part, Chevaywa Ward aspiring MCA Simiyu Lisweti promised to build a social hall for other sports activities in the region urging that this will ensure other sporting activities are also encouraged in the region.
