Keroche Breweries Limited CEO, Tabitha Karanja, and husband Joseph Karanja have been released on a bail of Ksh10 million and Ksh2 million respectively.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, however, granted them 7 days to make the payment failure to which they will be arrested and put in custody until they honour the directive.
The matter will be mentioned on September 2 with a pretrial set for September 24 before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
Mrs Karanja spent the night at the Muthaiga Police Station but her husband was released late on Thursday night on the intervention of Karen Hospital doctors who noted that he had a serious medical condition.
The couple was dramatically arrested in Naivasha on Thursday, August 22 afternoon, a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for their prosecution.
According to Haji, the directors, whose company has been on the rise in the last few years, would face 10 counts of tax fraud.
The revelations were made in an inquiry file submitted by the KRA Commissioner General, which put the allegedly evaded tax at Ksh14,451,836,375.
