AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed that the team will wear SportPesa branded jersey next season despite the betting company canceling their sponsorship with the club.
”The team will continue to wear SportPesa branded jerseys next season even after the sponsorship was canceled. The reason is that the kit manufacturer provided us with the shirts having already printed the name of our former sponsor and we are not in a position to change that now. We will use them until we find a permanent sponsor,” Shikanda told Opera News.
Sportpesa canceled all sponsorships with Kenyan firms after the Government banned their operations in the country due to a tax dispute. The betting company also had partnerships with the Kenya Premier League and Gor Mahia.
On Tuesday, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino revealed plans of a demonstration against the ban and called on all football fans to participate. The ban has left many people jobless as the betting companies release employees from their contracts in a bid to save on costs.
