Good morning Operites!
We hope you have started your Thursday well. If not, we are here to help, by serving you the hottest and freshest news taking centre stage.
Let’s start with a little surprise; newly-wed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru Waiganjo has declared Mt Kenya’s support for Baba! This is a miracle, seeing that Waiguru and Raila Odinga are not the best of friends. Even more strange is that Waiguru has heaped praises on the ODM kingpin. If it’s not a miracle, it might be something she ate, or maybe marriage makes people tolerant. Whichever way, this is politics for you; there are no permanent enemies.
Now some good news for teachers – the government has announced 5,000 teachers will be hired. If you or someone you know is qualified, prepare your documents. Applications will close at the end of the month and we at Opera wish you the best if you’re among them.
Yesterday we told you of a man who applied for a job using a paid newspaper advert. Mr Philip Sogoti advertised his intention to be Nairobi deputy governor, and we all waited #IfikieSonko. Well, Governor Mike Sonko has given his verdict – he is looking for a woman. Read that, and other stories making headlines, here.
Mt. Kenya is Ready to Support Raila
Mt Kenya region is open to forming a political alliance with Opposition leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 elections, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said.
“Raila understands the challenges women are facing. He has spoken firmly about it even during the funeral of Joyce Laboso (the former Bomet Governor),” she said.
Waiguru’s warming up to Raila stands in stark contrast with past speculation that she was angling to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in 2022.
Massive Recruitment at TSC
The government is hiring 5,000 teachers in public primary and secondary schools countrywide.
The recruitment is part of an ongoing campaign to plug a massive teacher shortage which stands at about 95,000 and to support a national drive to achieve 100 per cent transition rate from primary to secondary schools.
Sonko Rejects Deputy Governor Applicant
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has rejected a Nairobi voter’s application seeking to be his deputy.
The governor said there was a pending legislation in Parliament on nomination and appointment of deputy governor and that the applicant (Chepsat) was not a woman.
