Sixty people have been reported dead on Saturday after a fuel tanker exploded following an accident at Morogoro, 200 kilometres west of the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam, police said.
Majority of the motorists who rushed to the accident scenes to try and collect the leaking fuel and food vendors were burnt down beyond recognition along Dar es Salaam- Morogoro highway.
Firefighters from Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) and fire brigade are currently on a rescue mission.
The city of Morogoro is on a major route for transporting cargo and fuel from the port, which is the country’s commercial capital.
