Kenyan Premier League side, Gor Mahia may be forced to name a new head coach after it emerged that coach Hassan Oktay may not return to the country from his compassionate leave.

The tactician left for Turkey last week to attend to a pressing family issue and has hinted that he may not return to the club if he does not resolve the issue soon.

It has now emerged that the UK trained tactician may not return to the country. According to Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier, the tactician carried all his household items and he believes that he has left the club for good.

“His compassionate leave ended on Monday but he has not reported back. I have been trying to get hold of him but my calls are not going through. I tempted to believe that he is not coming back because I visited his house and to my suprise, he carried his stuff meaning he is not planning to come back. But that’s just my take it’s not official, I will try to reach him and hear what he has to say,” Rachier told Opera News.

The football administrator further stated that the team is ready for any eventuality and hinted that the club may have a new coach before the end of the week if Oktay confirms his departure.

“We are ready, there are coaches we interviewed alongside Oktay and if he is not coming back then we will go for the coach that finished second in the interview. We have an important match on Sunday in Burundi and for that match, we need a coach with a CAF A license, our assistant coach does not have that license meaning we have to act fast if he is not returning,” Oktay added.

Oktay was named Gor Mahia coach in December 2018 as a replacement for British coach Dylan Kerr who quit the club for South African side, Black Leopards. He went on to defend the Kenyan Premier League title and helped Gor Mahia reach the Caf Confederation Cup quarter-final stage for the first time ever.
