Luo Council of Elders have once again found themselves on the wrong side of social media users after calling on the late Ken Okoth’s European wife to visit Okoths native home in Kapondo Kasibu Homa bay county in order to attend a cleansing ceremony.
In a phone interview with a local media house, the elders insisted that the late Okoth’s wife should be immediately brought to Ken’s rural home where she will undergo a cleansing ceremony before being inherited by one of Ken’s older brothers or any close relative who is an Elder.
It is, however, the cleansing process that kept most of the Kenyans talking. According to the Elders, Luo traditions dictate that the cleansing ceremony involves engaging in sexual intercourse without a condom with a ‘cleanser who is usually not a family member.
According to a section of online users, the Elders are not genuine in their already outdated demands with many observing that the elders were only interested in satisfying their sexual curiosity with a European woman (Mzungu).
Here are the comments from both Facebook and Twitter;
Someone wants to taste a mzungu 🤔

Some folks are "salivating" for the mzungu
Some misfortunes are self-invited

Somebody please tell me. When Mama Okoth was struggling alone to raise her son singlehandedly, where was the council of elders and the community? Why can't these pretenders be honest enough and tell us they want to feast on a bull and ultimately on the widow.

Peter Kamara Cleansing my foot! Was she defiled by the death of her husband? That must be someone wanting free s*x with a mzungu. If it is cleansing, let them take her to church where she will be prayed for and encouraged thereafter. How can she be ‘cleansed’ while the whole clan is aware of it?
Agwe Akal I oppose, there is nothing like that in our Luo culture, these people are only interested in tasting that mzungus fruit.
Sam Sam Not cleansing as they are putting it..The old men just want to witness and feel how good it is to pekejeng a white woman because they are used to extremely dark humans of their land.
Huyu ndio cleaner?

Wacha ni cheke tu! Condom is western and was never part of tradition. That is why I read selfish interest in the name of tradition. Ama kuna mtu amekuwa starved……….?😂
