Copa U16: Serani, Wiyeta lift national titles

Serani Boys from the Coast Region and Wiyeta Girls from Rift Valley are the Copa U16 champions after beating Koyonzo and Maeni respectively in the finals played on Saturday morning.

Serani Boys started the game strongly piling pressure on Koyonzo in search of an opener. Captain of the day, Mohamed Mahir was particularly impressive upfront for the Mombasa based side proving a handful for Koyonzo defenders.

Koyonzo keeper Cyril Odunga was severally called into action pulling some fantastic saves to block  the determined Serani from taking the lead.

The Western representatives managed to absorb the early pressure and slowly grew into the game but Serani ran the show.

Despite dominating the game and creating the best chances of the game, Serani failed to capitalise on them and the first half ended barren.

 

The Coast region representatives continued with their dominance after the break this time with higher intensity looking to down the visibly overwhelmed Koyonzo.

The goal finally game in the 54th minute through Juma Mwinyikai who fired home after a quick interchange of passes.

In the Girls category, Wiyeta Girls from Kitale, Rift Valley reclaimed the Copa U16 title after beating Maeni from Western 2-1 in the final. Edna Wanda and Jecinta Karemana scored the goals for Wiyeta while Noel Oruko got the consolation for Maeni.
