Waititu, Wife Released on Tough Bail Conditions

Embattled Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Ndungú may spend the night in one of their palatial homes if they manage to raise sh19 million in the before 5 pm today (Tuesday)

This is after the High Court granted Waititu a Ksh 15 million cash bail and another 4 million for his wife. The couple has been charged over the award of sh588 million irregular tender.

In his ruling, Nairobi Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi also asked Baba Yao to deposit his passport with the courts. The governor has also been barred from accessing his office pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The court also barred his co-accused, who works for the county government, from setting foot in the Kiambu County offices. In addition, Mr. Waititu has been ordered to deposit his travel documents with the court.

 

 

The Sh588 million tender was for the upgrading of gravel roads to bituminous service. It was irregularly awarded to Testimony Enterprises Limited at a cost of Sh588 million.

EACC boss Twalib Mbarak said after submitting an investigation report to Haji, he gave consent to charge Waititu alongside 11 other suspects with conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, abuse of office and willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement.
