Dire Dawa to install single-window service center

DIRE DAWA– Dire Dawa City Administration revealed plans to commence a single-window service center to the business and investment community as of the next Ethiopian New Year, 2012.

Aiming at cutting time and reducing the cost incurred on the community, over 12 kinds of serviceswill be provided in the single-window, Abera Mengistu, City’s Industry, Trade, and Investment Bureau Research and Promotion Case Team leader told the Ethiopian Press Agency recently.

He said the quality of services provided is decisive to sustainable investment and the city will soon make the one-window service operational.

Asked about the investment activities in the city, Abera went on saying that over 31 investment potentials have been identified so far with the bulk of it, 17, representing the manufacturing sector.

“The city’s environs are inhabited by the farming and pastoral community, making investment conducive for those who optfor investing in leather and leather products, meat processing and cattle fattening, among others,” he said.

The city offers a comparative advantage to investors, he says, mentioning that Dire Dawa Industrial Park, whose first phase construction is nearing completion, and the City’s special economic zone are linked to Djibouti Port by rail and road, not to mention Dire Dawa International Airport that connects the eastern part of Ethiopia with the rest of the world.

Besides, the city, dubbed as small Ethiopia, is known for peace and mutual coexistence among its people from a diverse background.

Lying on 4,500 hectares of land,318 km from Djibouti Port, the Industrial park will host sectors including heavy industries, Textile & Apparel, vehicles assembly, electronics, the among others, according to information obtained from Ethiopian Investment Commission official website.

The first phase of the construction that lies on 150 hectares of land is nearing completion. To him, the completed sheds are being joined by both domestic and foreign investors. Investors including from China, Thailand, the U.S., have shown interest to join the park.

The one-window service is expected to meet expectations of the ever-enlarging business and investment community of the city, it was learned.
