US Praises Ethiopia, AU Brokered Sudan’s Peace Accord

ADDIS ABABA (ENA) – The U.S says ready to strengthen support for Sudanese peace accord facilitated by Ethiopia and the AU, Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. State Minister, Hirut Zemene on Wednesday discussed with Ambassador Donald Booth on the state of affairs in the Republic of Sudan in Addis Ababa.

Ambassador Hirut briefed Donald Booth, U.S Special Envoy for Sudan, on the negotiations between Sudan’s ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance to restore peace in the country.

Ambassador Hirut told the U.S envoy that Ethiopia will continue to support the efforts underway in Sudan to form a comprehensive and democratic civil government in cooperation with all concerned stakeholders.

Ambassador Donald Booth lauded the efforts made by Ethiopia and the AU to bring a lasting peace and the formation of civil government in Sudan in accordance to the terms of the agreement reached between the two sides.

It is to be noted that AU and Ethiopia had exerted every effort to make the TMC and FCA come to the negotiating table based on the preliminary efforts made by Prime Minister Abiy in his earlier visit to Sudan to solicit peaceful negotiations between the opposition and the TMC.

AU and the Ethiopian government had jointly facilitated the negotiations including the terms of formation of a civil government and related affairs between the PMC and Freedom and Change Alliance.
