Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out in the game against Tottenham in Shanghai on Thursday with the ankle injury that has also limited his ability to train with the rest of the squad.  This the fourth game in a row that he will be missing and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he does not regret taking Lukaku on United’s tour.

But this has raised doubts regarding Solskjaer’s wish to release the player for Inter Milan. The Italian giants have been salivating for the Belgian star but their first bid was rejected by the Red Devils. United stated that Lukaku will go nowhere unless his £80million valuation is met.

The 26-year-old has not been featured in any match since the pre-season tour began with Solskjaer insisting that Lukaku got the injury during the tour.

“He got injured in training, so he had to stay here,” he confirmed. “If it was worse, we would have sent him home, but he’s been working with the physios in the gym and stuff, so no [I do not regret bringing him here].”

Solskjaer’s only signings to date are youngsters Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, with United encountering frustration in their efforts to prise Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff from Leicester and Newcastle respectively. They are also facing uncertainty over the future of star midfielder, Paul Pogba, amid interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

And this has been speculated as the main reason why the Norwegian boss is not ready to release the 26-year-old.
