The much-touted handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga may have turned the perennial political rivals into conjoined twins with Raila’s new influence and his immediate change of fortunes raising eyebrows.

According to inside reports, Raila has been accorded a VVIP treatment by the State agencies, receives regular briefings from the Cabinet secretaries and makes policy announcements.

Raila’s relationship with his former nemesis Uhuru has reportedly beaten all expectations as Raila has reined in his troops in political circles and instructed them to stop attacking the President particularly and his ruling party Jubilee.

According to his spokesperson Denis Onyango, Raila’s groundsmen have been instructed to make consultations first before making any political move in case they see or hear something they do not understand.

“Mr. Odinga has also cut off his advisers,” confessed Onyango.

Raila’s loyalty to the ruling party has not only paid him handsomely but as well opened the door and a red carpet for him. The former Prime Minister has been egging Cabinet Secretaries for support and consultations on various issues at the same time hosting numerous local and international delegations in his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.

Numerous government officials and Raila’s aide’s painted a picture of a man whose fortunes have greatly changed, as well as an opposition leader who is doing little, if any, opposition.

The ODM leader is also reportedly accorded diplomatic security and official embassy cars to drive him around. His expenses are also paid for by the missions through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
