Barcelona’s new signing Frenkie de Jong is a real blessing to his new club. There are no doubts that Valverde will use Frenkie de Jong as an interior this season, either on the left or the right.
This is after his superb form and sharpness during their training that is currently ongoing at the Ciutat Esportiva. Valverde has confirmed that the 22-year-old is the reflection of someone who works with Barcelona’s first team.
“Antoine Griezmann is very good. But we already knew that. Frenkie de Jong is really impressive. In two training sessions, you can see that he has incredible quality. He’s really impressed us. That’s the reflection of someone who works with Barcelona’s first team,” said Barcelona’s coach.
In January, Barcelona and Ajax reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who was to play for the Dutch team till the end of last season.
The cost of the transfer operation was 75 million euros, plus a further 11 million in variables. The player signed a contract for the next five seasons, through to 2023/24.
The president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the CEO Òscar Grau were personally involved in closing the deal in Amsterdam.
The Dutchman came into Barca’s radar after a sublime display for his club in the domestic league and the Champions League. He helped Ajax lift the domestic double; the Dutch Cup and the Eredivisie as well as helping his the Dutch giants reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
