Nyeri MP protected by troops of police after calling Nyeri Youths ‘Mungiki’

Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua was forced to seek protection of 15 land-cruisers full of police after reffering to Nyeri Youth as ‘Mungiki.’

Gachagua was forced to refer to Nyeri Youths as Mungiki following the ugly chaos that rocked Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri’s meeting in Gatitu, Nyeri County.

Rowdy youths engaged in physical confrontations which disrupted the meeting.  Kiunjuri, who was in the county to launch the Sh256 million Riamukurwe water project, was caught up in the 2022 succession politics that fueled the commotion.

The angered Gachagua was later on the spot heard referring to the youths who are alleged to be from Kieleweke wing as ‘Mungiki.’

But Gachagua was forced to seek the protection of 15 land cruisers full of armed police over the weekend.

Gachagua was hosting at least 1,000 grassroots and opinion leaders to discuss development issues in Iria-ini ward in his constituency. The vocal MP was informed that the youths had planned to heckle him for referring to them as ‘Mungiki.’

But Gachagua took advantage of the tight security to rubbish the ongoing push by some lawmakers for President Uhuru to do a cabinet reshuffle.

He stated that those yapping about cabinet reshuffle are just being mischievous.

“You cannot tell the President to dissolve the Cabinet. Who are you? The President is the one who formed the Cabinet, and he will deal with his Cabinet the way he deems fit,” the MP said.
