Man United Offer goalkeeper a refined deal

Twenty-times English Premier League winners, Manchester United are making up an improved contract offer to wantaway number one goalkeeper David De Gea who has been pressuring for an exit.

The Old Trafford based club have been in talks with the goalkeeper for some time, with the Spaniard’s current deal expiring at the end of next season.

De Gea’s high demands over a new deal have held up negotiations with the goalkeeper who is looking for close to £350,000-a-week which has been causing dressing room hiccups but United have made another offer to the Spaniard in an attempt to finally agree upon a contract extension.

The United bosses have switched their attention to the keeper after Marcus Rashford committed his long-term future to the Old Trafford giants earlier this week that keeps him until 2023.

The Spaniard has been strongly linked with a move to PSG and Juventus, while Real Madrid continues to be tipped to make a bid after a move fell through in 2015.

He has been named the club’s player of the year on a record four occasions during an outstanding spell at Old Trafford although his form dipped towards the end of last season as a series of high-profile mistakes cost United dearly.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ignored calls for De Gea to be replaced at the end of the season and insisted he had full confidence in the Spaniard to return to form.

“Of course we trust him, he’s been fantastic this season,” the United boss said.

“Towards the end now he’s been in the headlines maybe for the wrong reasons, but, as I’ve said so many times, he has to deal with that.

“The goalkeeping department is a fantastic group together, with Emilio (Alvarez, goalkeeping coach), Sergio (Romero), Lee (Grant) and David.

“They’ve been such a tight-knit group, so they’ve experienced better times obviously than just now.”
