AFCON2019: Marcelo, Olunga thank fans after exit

Harambee Stars players Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma and Michael Olunga have taken to social media to thank Kenyan fans for the support they gave the team during their time at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

Kenya exited the biannual tournament on Tuesday evening when Benin force a draw against Cameroon and in the process took the final best third-placed team slot.

Sebastien Migne’s side won 3-2 against Tanzania and lost 2-0 against Algeria and 3-0 against Senegal. All the games were played at the Air Defence stadium in Cairo.

The players had a good tournament featuring in all the three games. Olunga scored two goals in the 3-2 win over Tanzania while Ouma, famously known as Marcelo put in a good shift in the left back and left flank positions.

Olunga has taken to social media to thank the supporters and pointed out that they have picked vital lessons from the tournament that will be beneficial in future assignments.

 “Thank you all for the support. We appreciate it. Hope this experience can be vital in the upcoming assignments. We will definitely learn from this and strive to make progress. Once again, it was an honour to represent KENYA,” he tweeted.

Ouma on the other hand thanked coach Sebastien Migne for believing in him and the supporters who rallied behind the team and him.

Stars will not shift focus to the upcoming African Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
