Lessons Kenyans have learnt from Uganda, Zimbabwe match

Uganda and Zimbabwe on Wednesday had an enthralling African Cup of Nation match that captured the attention of everyone including Kenyans who had a lesson to learn. In fact, the match was marred by both interesting and horrendous scenes.

Two glaring misses by the captain Knowledge Musona cost Zimbabwe as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Uganda in an entertaining match that was also crucial to the Warriors after they lost their opener against Egypt. Uganda won their opener against DR Congo and this was their chance to keep safe their hopes of going past the group stages, which they did.

Emmanuel Okwi got the Cranes off to a flying start by turning in the rebound after George Chigova parried Abdu Lumala’s shot. The Warriors reacted well, looked dangerous going forward and equalized after Ovidy Karuru’s low cross was turned in by Khama Billiat.

Zimbabweans should have gone ahead five minutes into the second half as Karuru left Musona with an empty goal to aim at but he struck the bar.

At the sight of that, Kenyans back home were left deliberating on the lessons they learnt from that thrilling match. Surprisingly, many have been left speechless on comparing Harambee Stars with the two teams. They claim that the Kenyan side is not quick and tactical as Zimbabwe and Uganda.

For that reason, some fans are wondering whether they will take their time and watch Harambee Stars match against Tanzania slated for Thursday night.

Arguably, this was one of the most interesting AFCON matches so far and all eyes will be whether Harambee Stars and Taifa Stars will emulate their display or even inch closer.
