Algeria forward, Youcef Belaili took the advantage of a poor ball clearance from the Senegalese defenders in the 48th minute to send his side into the round of sixteen in the only lone gal of the match that was characterised by ugly scenes and ineffectiveness from the Senegalese side.
Sadio Mane missed a chance to put his side ahead in the 4th-minute after a left-side cross which found him a little ahead of the ball making it hard for him to tap it in.
The two teams who won their first matches started the match at a slow but measured pace with each side weighing the opponent in their passes and runs.
Senegal captain and defender, Cheikhou Kouyate was on the referee’s book receiving a yellow card on the 14th minute for a bad tackle which with the foul kick ending into the hands of the goalkeeper’s hands safely after the free kick.
Youcef Atal foul on Sadio Mane on the 23rd minute saw the defender engage the referee on an argument that earned him a yellow card an a foul that was poorly taken by Keita Balde
Algeria missed a golden chance to go ahead of their rivals in the 26th minute as the referee gave them an advantage after a foul but Bunedjah was short of technique as Koulibaly came in to clear the ball after the goalkeeper had been outdone by the Senegalese.
Napoli star central defender, Kalidou Koulibaly was seemingly controlling the happenings at the back of Senegal’s half especially at the back.
Senegal Missed a chance in the 47th minute but in less than a minute later, the 48th minute Youcef Belaili got a killer screamer outside the box that went past the goalkeeper leaving him still standing stunned in what was a poor clearance from the defence.
24-years-old Sada Thioub who plays for French side Neims came in for Keita Balde in the 63rd minute but his presence was less felt throughout the match.

Mahrez first short of the game came after the star’s twisting and turning the Senegalese defenders go wide in the 70th minute.
Senegal’s defender missed a chance to bring his team to par with the Algerian in the 78th minute after his screamer shot was punched away by the Algerian keeper.
