List of Assorted Items Recovered By Detectives from Paul Kobia’s Residence

On Wednesday morning, a group of detectives from the Serious Crime Unit raided the residence of city Tycoon Paul Kobia in Kilimani Nairobi in the process arresting 14 suspects.

The raid according to DCI reports was conducted following a report made to the body by a complainant from Dubai who had been conned about 1.7million US dollars; USD140,000 by the tycoon. Part of the money was allegedly paid in Kenya with the rest being paid in Dubai for the sale of 50kgs of Of Gold which the tycoon claimed to be owning.

The raid came just a day after the detectives are said to have first visited the premises on Tuesday evening and conducted a reconnaissance, an observation conducted on his home before they again stroke on Wednesday.

The detectives are said to have arrived at the residence around 10 am with reports indicating that Paul Kobia was at the time in Riverside Drive residence. The journalists were barred from accessing the residence where the raiding was being carried out.

And after some hours of intensive searching, detectives managed to nab assorted items from the residence. According to the detectives, among the items recovered at the home included;

7 suspected Gold nuggets,  6 Motor Vehicles, Wooden Bank Stamp (Central Bank of Kenya) Thermo scientific Arton Analyser Platinum, Thermo Couple Machine , Money Counting Machine, ETR Machine, Assorted seals/stamps& Suspected counterfeit Gds

 

According to the officers, the 14 suspects who were arrested during the raid included Paul Kobia, Simeon Wanaina, Paul Gichuhi, Benjamin Mutisya, Patrick Mweu, Samson Kibet, Faith Kioko, Joyce Wenani, Miriam Nyambura, Consolata Thirindi, James Masai, Doreen Kathambi, Tanya Yvonne Goes and Gabriel Ndururi Murage.

This was not the first time the tycoon was involved in the controversies. In the past, Kobia once sued the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) for allegedly threatening to close his bank accounts if he failed to disclose his source of huge chunks of money.

According to Kobia, the move by CBK to have his source of wealth was an infringement on the customers constitutional right to privacy and property. Kobia has curved the reputation of a flamboyant businessman known to flash his wealth.

All the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday after the charges against them are finalized.
