President Uhuru Kenyatta has disclosed that it is his father, the first President of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who inspired him to become a president.

The question about his childhood dreams caught the president off guard as he took a few minutes to let the question sink in before responding heartily, amid laughs and applause from the audience.

Uhuru admitted that he had dreams, just like any other young child.

“When I was young, I dreamt of success. I dreamt of making it big in life. And furthermore, I would be lying if I didn’t say I wanted to be like my father,” Uhuru opened up.

Uhuru went on to note the lost moral grounding in today’s family set up that has made it hard for children to make their dreams come true.

“We need to create a good, firm and moral grounding; we have lost that sense of family that some of us had the advantage of experiencing early. We have become too individualistic, materialistic and therefore, a lot of our children are losing hope, “he argued.

Kenya’s 4th president was speaking during the Young Africa Works summit organized by MasterCard Foundation, promised to set up studios across the country where the youth can go record or perform in a fight against unemployment.

“We are starting and hope to set up studios across the country where people can go record or perform”.

The lack of facilities has been a major obstacle for youth who wish to pursue arts, he argued.

“We are starting and we hope to set up studios across the country. We figured that that has been one of the major obstacles, that young people have the talent but they do not have the resources to (get to) these studios,” said Mr Kenyatta.
