Deputy President William Ruto’s Jubilee party has suffered yet another major setback after a key political blogger from the region shifted camps from Jubilee to Isaac Ruto’s Chama Cha Masinanai.

The blogger Benedict Ruto, who was initially a major campaigner of Jubilee party and William Ruto’s ally Ambassador Julius BittokΒ  announced his defection on Wednesday to CCM party under Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki

According to Benedict, some of the insults emanating from a section of Jubilee supporters forced him out of the party, and in particular, supporting Jubilee associated candidate ambassador Bitok. He promised to work closely with CCM candidate in Uasin Gishu county telling off those who associated his move to CCM with monetary gains.

“If there is someone I respect then it’s Amb Julius Bitok, he is a great bureaucrat , but the speed at which some of his boys are abusing me is much wanting, firstly, I respect Bitok so much, secondly, I recruited 99% of you to team Bitok, so when I leave for team Buzeki you should highly respect my reservations.

I stood by you people and it’s that time to look for new challenge, have done everything I could have done for you, I find Buzeki my right choice to work with, not on monetary issues because in fact, I was a pure volunteer to you people, so just respect my decision please, attacking me by your known”by me” fake accounts will only worsen everything.” he posted

His defection was however met with various reactions from a number of online users in the county of Uasin-Gishu. While some encouraged and commended the blogger for the bold move, some took the opportunity to launch attacks on him saying the blogger had betrayed the community by supporting a rival party.

Ambassador Julius Bitok is considered one of the serious competitor from the Jubilee party in Uasin Gishu county who will counter CCM candidate Buzeki in 2022 for the governorship seat.

Bitok is facing serious competition for the Jubilee party ticket in 2022 from former Kanu candidate Jonathan Bii commonly known Chelilim who recently shifted camps from Kanu to Jubilee party. Mandago’s second term will be coming to an end in 2022 opening up fierce competition from the aspiring candidates.

Barely a day after shifting to CCM, the one time Jubilee die-hard supporter warned the county residents against politicizing Uhuru’s visit to the region on Friday saying that such cheap politics might force the head of state to cancel his visit at the last minute.

This comes at a time when expectations in Uasin Gishu county are high following announcements that President Uhuru Kenyatta will visit the region on Friday to preside over the relaunch of Moi University owned textile factory, Rivatex in Eldoret town.

This will be the first time the President will be touring the town since 2017. Uhuru’s relationship with Ruto went sour after the March 2018 handshake between the President and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
