Everton the curler! Who is this Brazilian Wonder kid Setting Copa America ablaze?

Talk of Everton! This is not the Premier League club, commonly known to you. But it is the name of a young emerging Brazilian superstar, who has made a name in the ongoing Copa America tournament after scoring with an enthralling curler.

The hosts Brazil thrashed Bolivia 3-0 in their opening match of the Copa America tournament where Barcelona ace Philippe Coutinho displayed his brilliance after a hectic moment in the La Liga at Nou Camp.

Both sides were poor in the first period but the game briefly came alive five minutes into the second half when Coutinho slotted home a VAR-assisted penalty.

Three minutes later, Coutinho grabbed a second with a close-range header.

However, the most celebrated goal came when Everton rifled home a third from outside the box with five minutes remaining, a sensational goal that has captured the attention of the entire football world.

 

But who is this Everton?

Everton Sousa Soares was born on 22 March 1996), simply known as Everton.

He is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Gremio.

Everton was born in Maracanau, Ceara and joined Gremio’s youth setup in 2012, from Fortaleza where he joined in 2009. Initially, he was on loan but later signed a permanent contract in October 2013, while also being linked to Manchester City in the process.

The 23-year-old was promoted to the main squad by Enderson Moreira ahead of the 2014 season where he made his first team debut on 19 January of that year as a second-half substitute for Yuri Mamute in a 1โ€“0 Campeonato Gaucho away loss against Sao Jose-PA.

His first goal came on four days later, as he scored the first in a 2โ€“1 home win against Lajeadense.

On 15 August 2016, the sensational star renewed his contract with Grรชmio which will run until 2020. His superb display attracted Brazil national team coach Tite, who called him in the national team in August 17, 2018, for friendly matches against United States, and El Salvador.

Coach Tite listed him in the first team of Brazil since the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In May 2019, he was included in Brazil’s 23-man squad for the 2019 Copa America.

The player has received a heap of praise after the wonderful job he did on Friday during their opening match against Bolivia.
