Majority Leader of the National Assembly Aden Duale who also serves as a mouthpiece to Jubilee Party is now pursuing a new scheme aimed at scrapping the Women Representatives and Senate Positions.
Aden Duale who has joined the league of leaders supporting the call for constitutional amendments wants those positions removed from the constitution.
Speaking during the National Assembly session, Aden Duale has stated that he has been keeping close tabs with ThirdWay Alliance Leader Ekuru Aukot on the issue of referendum including holding late night meetings on the same.
Hon Duale, Garissa Town MP , predicted that the referendum proposal will receive a majority back up from the National Assembly after being approved by the County Assemblies.
Duale’s sentiments angered the Women Representatives who claimed that Hon Duale has been constantly undermining their role in the National Assembly.
Lamu Women Rep Mohammed Obbo accused Hon Duale of abusing their position in and outside of the Parliament. Hon Mohammed Obbo thus called on Duale to show respect to the Women Representatives.
Sabina Chege Murang’a women Rep and Gladwell Cheruiyot Baringo Women Rep also condemned Hon Duale’s sentiments stating that they are ill-informed.
Although Hon Duale who sometimes speaks for Jubilee Party has stated his stand, the Party is yet to come out and declare what they stand for in the referendum debate.
As Political leaders continue to tackle each other, Independent Electrol and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stated that it is ready to conduct the referendum if the people decide that it should be held.
