De Ligt Changes Tune About His Move to Barcelona

Sensational Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt changes tune a few days after shocking Barcelona with his statement about which team he will be signing for this summer.

De Ligt is currently facing one of the hardest moments in his life as he undergoes a serious decision-making challenge regarding his next club for the next season.

The young Ajax captain has been the hottest property in the market this summer due to his excellent display both in the domestic league and the Champions League.

The 19-year-old helped Ajax pull the domestic double; the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup. His wonderful leadership also saw him help his club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League after falling into the hands of hungry Tottenham Hotspur.

Since then, many clubs including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona among others have been actively looking for his with Barca being the favourites to secure his signature.

Ajax young defender has been hitting the headlines and has kept people in suspense over his future as he was quoted one time expressing his desire to join Barca to play with his former teammate Frenkie de Jong, who was signed by Barcelona back in January.

Just after their Nations League final match against Portugal, De Ligt said that he will be making his decision after a vacation that he is going for.

But one thing that the Dutchman has insisted on is that he needs a club that will give him enough time to play and grow.

“I’m going on vacation now. I will think about what is best for me and then I will decide. I think it’s important that a young player plays, that’s the only thing I know, “said De Ligt.

This statement was interpreted to aim at Barcelona since the Dutchman has been worrying of Gerard Pique’s presence at Nou Camp as he may be forced to play second fiddle for the Spanish defender.

But now his latest remarks seem to contradict the above statement as he now reveals his desire to play alongside his friend De Jong though he hasn’t made his final decision.
