In the intelligence fraternity, coincidences are rare, if any.

That a building that was yet to celebrate its second anniversary went all up in flames without proper intervention baffles many.

While reports indicating that no fatalities have been recorded are sweet relief to many families with employees working at the Malik complex, some of the descriptions of the cause of the fire just leave a lot to be desired.

Official communication to media stations revealed that pockets of multiple explosions were heard from inside of the building were heard before the fire got out of control.

These were the exact description of a deadly attack on January 14 when a group of Islamic extremists stormed the Dusit D2 Complex where dozens of people lost their lives.

Through a coordinated effort by the various police departments, the situation would be controlled and the terrorists neutralized.

When the Malik fire broke out on the night of Monday at around 8pm, it was sheer luck that most employees had gone home, and the handful who had remained in the complex’s 9-floor building were never trapped at any point.

If ever the fire started during the official business hours, the fatalities could have been greater, and the discussion would have been different.

While the Dusit D2 complex received an insurance compensation of Ksh400m, it remains scanty whether Malik complex was insured against fire.

A spot-check by the Citizen Digital revealed the sad state of affairs for a Motor bazaar which had lost all of the cars on display in the complex.
