Policeman teargasses apartment after arguing with girlfriend

Residents of Blue Valley area in Karatina, Nyeri County were left in shock after a neighbour who happens to be a police officer teargassed the whole apartment after he differed with his girlfriend on Friday night.

The policeman identified as  David Kemboi, reportedly lobbed the teargas at 9:30pm forcing the tenants and their children to flee the building.

“Police officers rushed to the scene and established that No.117399 PC David Kemboi, who is a tenant in the said plot, had a disagreement with his girlfriend and exploded a tear gas canister which forced 10 other tenants and their children to scamper out of their houses as they fled from the fumes,” a police statement seen by local media reads.

The agitated landlord, Ambrose Mwangi Mundia lamented that the incident caused a lot of disturbance in the plot.

The police statement also said a search yielded an unexploded teargas canister inside the officer’s house while the exploded one is yet to be recovered.

No one was injured during the incident but officers have launched a manhunt for the policeman and his girlfriend.

Elsewhere, police on Sunday morning arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife over food at Rukanga village in Mwea-West Sub-County, Kirinyaga County.

The suspect, Kagai Wanjohi, beat up his 38-year-old wife Virginia Wambui Kagai before strangling her to death using a leso.

”The deceased also had injuries on her right leg and hand. The suspect is being held at Sagana Police Station and we are still carrying out more investigations,” Mwea-West OCPD Stephen Wenda said.

According to one of the neighbour’s,  Wanjohi approached him wanting to hire his vehicle to take his wife’s body to the mortuary claiming she had died in the house.

The neighbour reportedly insisted they first report the matter to the police, which prompted Wanjohi’s confession that he had beaten his wife after a disagreement.

“He told me they had an argument with the wife after he arrived home and found there was no food,” the neighbour told Citizen.

Police arrested the suspect after Wanjohi’s daughter reported to the police that he had killed her mother at around 1 am, then covered her body with a blanket.

According to the daughter, the suspect had recently threatened to kill her mother, adding that he turns hostile after getting drunk.
