Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga could soon find himself as a candidate to replace embattled UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who will step down from her position on 7th June after three turbulent years.

May announced last week that she will be stepping down after failing to deliver a Brexit plan and survived a vote of no confidence in December 2018. It has been a tough period for UK only second female Prime Minister.

But who will replace her? Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto believes Raila Odinga can right the wrongs of Theresa May, especially since he has the experience of serving in the same position in Kenya.

On Thursday, during the National Prayer Day held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Dr Michael Hastings, a member of the UK House of Lords asked that Kenyans consider giving them a Prime Minister especially during this tough times.

”We have a little political turbulence at home and we just wonder if you have a spare Prime Minister around we could borrow.’ Dr Hastings said amid laughter.

Ruto said that Kenya is ready to extend a helping hand to the UK because the Britons have led Kenyans in different capacities. He argued that Raila is retired and may not get the position of Prime Minister any time soon because it is abolished from the constitution.

“We have a retired one in Kenya and since the constitution has abolished that position in Kenya and he may not have it anytime soon, we will send you his CV, maybe you can consider.”

Ruto promised to send Raila’s CV to the UK for consideration.

But the news has not been received well by Raila’s camp. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has wondered why Ruto has not sent the CVs of millions of jobless youth in the country. How can he then help Raila?

“How about DP Ruto first deals with the CVs of the millions of jobless youth we have in our country. He promised millions of jobs in Jubilees first term and even more in the second but he appears only keen on RAOs CV.” Sifuna said on his Twitter handle.

We don’t know if Raila would be willing to take this job. He has just been told that getting it in Kenya will not be any time soon.
