Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, in a long heated altercation with health workers has finally had the court rule in her favor.
The medics who issued a seven-day strike notice have now been ordered to call of the strike, as it has been declared unlawful.
This is after the county government marched to the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi, seeking an injunction under a certificate of urgency.
Governor Waiguru earlier accused the health workers of being used by her political enemies to stage the frustrations.
Following the county application, the court ordered that the said strike be blocked until the matter is heard and determined. The restraining orders were issued to county government health workers who belong to four different unions.
In their notice, the workers cited delayed promotions and poor working environment as grounds for industrial action. They also accused their employer of highhandedness.
The brawl unfolded after the county sacked 346 casual workers in the health sector.
Kirinyagas wage bill is 46% of its revenue. That must change if we will see meaningful progress. We therefore refuse to be derailed by political shenanigans of those inciting staff to go on a go-slow citing removal of casual workers.#KirinyagaRising pic.twitter.com/k6sLv9sG3n

This is the current status of Kerugoya hospital as at 12pm today. However, you will agree with me that 346 casuals in addition to 300 medical staff, 50 data entry staff and other support staff is over staffing for a 200 bed capacity hospital.#KirinyagaRising pic.twitter.com/iKG41bmgL6
