“It’s a non issue!” Fearless Wetangula finally responds to gold scam links

Troubled Senator Moses Wetangula has responded to fake gold scam links by terming them a “non-issue.”

According to reports DCI detectives had summoned him on Wednesday but the Ford-Kenya party leader said he was not aware of such summons.

On Wednesday morning, Wetangula, who is a person of interest in the ongoing investigations into fake gold scam,  led a meeting of his party in the capital Nairobi.

“I am here because I am here,” he said as he exuded confidence when asked about the summons.

“I am here for my party meetings. I am not aware of what you are talking about, it is a non-issue to me and I don’t want to engage in it.”

“I’ll be in a committee meeting at Senate and I’ll be in the plenary in the afternoon debating issues of the country as they come on the floor,” he said.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is looking into case where a Dubai businessman claims he lost sh400 million to scammers.

Wetangula was expected to shed light on the scam that has rocked Nairobi and beyond.

He jetted back in the country from Hong Kong silently where he represented the country in Corruption conference.

On December 15, 2018, the Senator allegedly flew to Dubai at the invitation of Zandi for a meeting during which he assured his host he would help release the gold.

Wetang’ula allegedly invoked the name of CS Fred Matiang’i, claiming the CS wanted Sh200 million before he could intervene to have the cargo released. The sheikhs in Dubai revealed they had been promised 23 tonnes cargo.

In the audio conversation, Wetang’ula also dropped the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga to assure a Dubai gold investor believed to be Ali Zandi that their detained consignment would be released.

Kinoti said the fraudsters had even leased premises at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and were using unscrupulous government officials to facilitate their movements at the airports and government offices.
