Church should Nurture Artistes to produce clean contents – Dr Ezekiel Mutua

The Kenya Film Classification Board, (KFCB) CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua has urged church leaders to use the church platforms to promote moral values across the captive audience.

The church should empower youths to discover gifts and skills and take up positions in the community to enable the transformation of Kenya’s moral fabric.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting with Church leaders in Nairobi on Wednesday, Dr Mutua – morality policeman – said that the church should mentor young people for responsible media consumption.

Several artists have been accused of producing disturbing contents forcing the regulating body to impose a ban.

“Myriads of cases of creation of negative and dirty media content by our youths glorifying one vice or another have gone viral on the new and traditional media leading to deaths of innocent people,” stated Dr Mutua.

KFCB also praised the High Court for declining to repeal sections 162 and 165 of the Penal Code that would have decriminalized homosexuality.

The church leaders are tasked to read and stay informed of the surrounding happenings so that they can lead the flock based on current affairs.

Referencing to the most successful Nigeria’s film industry, Dr Mutua revealed that the genesis of the super Nollywood movies was the church.

“Nollywood of Nigeria started in churches. Church leaders helped to offer opportunities to talented youths to act. That’s why their films have reference to God,” said Dr Mutua.

Therefore, the church needs to strategically seek to have an impact on the Government, Media, Arts and Entertainment, Religion, Education, Business and the Family.

This year, KFCB banned Harmonize and Diamond’s hit song Kwangwaru from playing in Kenyan schools.

Dr Mutua argued that the content of the song Kwangwaru undermined the country’s culture and values.

Takataka hit by musical artist Alvindo was also banned for inciting violence against women and promoting moral decadence.
